We all know from Science Class that the three components of fire
are fuel, oxygen, and heat. Obviously, this was understood, at
least to some degree, during Jesus' time. We can tell that from
the previous scripture.
It appears that Paul is making
reference to a person that is starting a fire or tending a fire
that is about to go out. Why do you fan or blow on a smoldering
fire? This oxygenates the fire. Adding oxygen to a fire will do
two (2) important things. It will drop the temperature that the
fuel will combust at and it increases the temperature of the
fire itself.
You have probably heard of someone who lost a barn because the
hay spontaneously combusted. What happens in this case is the
hay is stored while it is still wet. The wet hay will begin to
decay (rot). This chemical process causes heat and releases pure
oxygen. When these two things reach the point of spontaneous
combustion the hay catches on fire.

God's
desire, for all of us in "Refuge" is that our "fire" for Jesus
will not just smolder but burn hotter and hotter! The hotter the
fire is in our lives the more impurities (sin and imperfection)
God will remove from our lives. Of course this can't happen if
we don't desire it and want to be more like him.
If we are really "on fire" for
Jesus and we live our lives at school, work, or any other time
like we do when we are at Church then we can expect that those
around us will be affected and they will catch on fire for
Jesus, "Spontaneously Combust". Our witness in our walk speaks
louder than our words or as commonly said, "Don't talk the talk
if you can't walk the walk".
